(This gives time for everyone to get settled, prepared, and psyched up for the meet.
It also serves as a time buffer, should you get caught in traffic and are running late.)

The City Championship Meet is July 19th – 21st this year, so mark your calendars!  If you know you will be unavailable any of those days, let the coaches know!  We also have a missed meet book in the lifeguard room.  If you know you are going to miss any of the meets listed above, be sure to write your name on the designated meet sheet.

Practice Schedule
Monday, May 4th is the first day of practice.  Swimmers should be at the Parkshore pool at least 5 to 10 minutes before practice starts.  Avoid starting late and losing precious practice time!  The practice schedule is as follows:

Bronze Group – 6 & Unders and new 7-year-olds
Silver Group – Returning 7-year-olds & all 8 – 10’s
Gold Group – 11 & Over
Afternoon Practices (non-meet days)  -       Bronze Group: 4:30 – 5 PM
Silver Group: 5 – 6 PM
Gold Group: 6 – 7 PM
Morning Practices – Silver Group: Mon – Fri (except meet days) – 7:30 – 8:45 AM
•  Meet days – 7:30 – 8:15 AM
•  Saturdays – 9 – 10 AM
Gold Group: Mon – Fri (except meet days) – 7:30 – 8:45 AM
•  Meet days – 8 – 8:45 AM
•  Saturdays – 10 – 11 AM

There is NO morning practice for the Bronze group.  There is no Wednesday morning practice on the weeks we have two dual meets scheduled.  Swimmers from the Gold and Silver groups are welcome to attend morning and afternoon practices.
***Hydration is crucial, so be sure to bring a water bottle to practice as well as meets!

* On Saturday, May 30th we will be holding time trials at 9 AM for the entire team.                                             This will take the place of regularly scheduled Saturday practices.
* On Saturday, June 6th we will have an intra-squad practice meet.  This will familiarize                          swimmers, and parents with the way a meet works.  It is also a lot                                             of fun!

Other Information
Please feel free to bring up any suggestions or problems to the coaches.  Try not to do so during practice times though.

Any changes to the practice or meet schedule will be printed in a handout if possible, and will be posted near the pool, on the team’s website (www.swimpks.com), and in the family folders in the box in the lifeguard room.  Meet results and team news will be posted on the website, so be sure to check it!

Let’s go Piranhas!

The Coaching Philosophy of the Parkshore Piranhas Staff:
We intend to provide instruction, motivation, challenges and fun in a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. We try to teach not only swimming skills, but also skills such as teamwork, self-discipline and goal setting. We strive to maintain a balance between participation and team success. We realize that winning is not the most important thing; however, personal and team success can be incredible motivators. We try to help swimmers set individual goals, and to set new ones when those goals are reached. We encourage each swimmer to view every practice or meet as a chance to become a better swimmer than the day before.

Pine Forest Meet Results:

Congratulations Parkshore swimmers and parents on a great job!  The final score was Parkshore 355, Pine Forest 166.  After a stormy evening our first trip out to Pine Forest, the rescheduled meet's weather was beautiful.  Thank you to everyone who made the trip out there for a second time.

I would like to recognize a swimmer from the 5 PM group, and one from the 6 PM group for their standout performances.  The swimmer of the meet from the 5 PM group is Lynsie Jones.  Lynsie was aged up to 11/12 girls for the meet, and competed in the 50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 100 IM, and the 200 Freestyle Relay for Points.  Lynsie even won the 50 Backstroke as a 9-10!  From the 6 PM group, Brody Haley is the swimmer of the meet.  Brody was part of the winning 200 Mixed Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay.  He also won the 50 Backstroke and 100 IM.  Along with winning those events, Brody dropped 2 seconds in his 50 Free, 3 seconds in his 50 Back, and 4 seconds in his 100 IM.  Congratulations Lynsie and Brody on your accomplishments!

Coosaw Creek Meet Results:

After a long week with three scheduled meets, the Parkshore swimmers went up against the Coosaw Creek Swim Team.  Coosaw won all of their meets last season, even beating Snee Farm in the dual-meet season.  They almost won the 2008 City Meet as well.  Therefore, heading into this meet at the end of the week was challenging.  It was around 100 degrees on our make-up meet Saturday morning.  Parkshore swam exceptionally well considering all of the circumstances.  Parkshore swimmers and parents had the right attitutide, despite missing half the team for the meet.  Thank you to everyone who made it to Coosaw on Saturday!

Congratulations to Joe Riddell and Matthew Hughes, the 5 and 6 PM group swimmers of the meet.  Joe won the 50 Butterfly, and took second in the 50 Breaststroke, and 100 IM on Saturday.  He had personal bests in the 50 Fly, 50 Breaststroke, and 100 IM - dropping 2.5 seconds in the 50 Fly, 2 seconds in the 50 Breast, and 3.5 seconds in the 100 IM!  Matthew won the 50 Free and was on the winning 200 Free Relay team.  He dropped time in the 50 Free, a little over 1 second in the 50 Breast, and 3 seconds in the 100 IM.  Congrats!

Next meet is on Tuesday, June 23rd at Northbridge.  Do not arrive before 5 PM and set up chairs.  Apparently this has been a problem in the past.  I have also been informed that no one is allowed to park in the circular driveway of the house located at the corner of Northbridge and Dunbarton Streets.
